Catherine, Andrea, Karen, Eamon and Chris competed at this year’s Canadian National Championships at the Rexall Center in Toronto.
Catherine competed in the cadet event and came in 33rd in a tough field of the best under 17 year old fencers in Canada. Karen and Andrea competed in the senior event and fenced some tough bouts, Andrea winning 4/6 and Karen winning 2/5 of their poule bouts. Andrea had a nail bitter elimination bout in the round of 32, eventually winning in overtime with a flick hit to the wrist. In the round of 16 she lost to the eventual winner, finishing 12th. Karen fought hard in her elimination bout and finished 39th.
The field was also very strong in the men’s competition, with everyone bringing nothing less than their best. Eamon won 3/6 in his poule and had a tough first elimination bout, finishing 44th. Chris fenced in the veteran event and won 5/6 in his poule and just came up short in his round of 8 elimination bout, finishing 5th.
We would like to congratulate Lou on his bronze medal win in the junior event! Lou was ranked 32 after the poules, and defeated the 2nd ranked fencer 15-12, and continued his winning streak until the semi finals. We are very proud of you!
Great job everyone, and looking forward to the new fencing season in September!
