Andrea Csiba and Nathaniel Stokan had a very successful and exciting tournament in Montreal on May 21-23. Andrea started with a bang, winning five of her six poule bouts in Senior Women’s and beating her poule’s top-ranked fencer. After a bye, she faced a strong opponent in the round of 32. She pulled ahead and won in overtime, and also won her round of 16 during overtime in a strategic, fast-paced bout. She lost in the top eight and fought another two bouts, ranking her in eighth out of fifty of Canada’s best fencers!
Nathaniel fenced in both Cadet and Junior Men’s epee. In the former, he had a lucrative time in the poules, earning a bye for the first round. His next bout was neck-and- neck contest with a final score of 15-13. In Junior Men’s, he finished 4-2 in his poule and won his first bout 15-13. His next was another close match, and he ended with a narrow 15-12 loss that placed him in 29th .
